What Do You Know About Eyebrow Transplant and Its Methods?

It is often said that the eyes reveal our thoughts and feelings, and they are among the most important ways to express our true selves. But eyebrows, like eyes, also play a significant social role, as they help people communicate their emotions and thoughts more easily. Through eyebrow transplantation, we can express many of our feelings, such as excitement or boredom, since this method provides natural, permanent, and growing results that, unlike many other procedures, do not distort the natural appearance of the face.

How Is Eyebrow Transplant Performed?

For an eyebrow transplant, it is necessary to extract hair follicles from denser areas of the body (usually the back of the scalp) and implant them into the recipient site in the eyebrows. By using different eyebrow transplant methods, you can achieve your desired shape and, if you wish, even reshape or recolor them later. Modern techniques for natural eyebrow transplantation are minimally invasive and performed under local anesthesia, eliminating the need for hospitalization while carrying very limited risks or side effects.

Eyebrow Transplantation Methods

The main eyebrow transplantation methods are listed below. However, note that at Tehran Beauty Center Clinic, only the last method—non-surgical—is applied:

Eyebrow Transplant Using FUT Method

The FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) method involves removing hair follicles along with a strip of skin and transferring them to the recipient site. This is a surgical procedure performed using a scalpel. First, a strip of skin is removed from the donor area (usually a dense part of the scalp). This donor tissue, which contains resistant hair follicles, is then transplanted into the eyebrows. After grafting, the follicles start growing in the new location, and about six months later, new eyebrow hairs begin to appear.

Eyebrow Transplant Using FUE Method

The FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method is a more modern technique that resolves the issues of the previous method, such as invasiveness and the need for surgery. This method does not involve bleeding or surgical procedures, making it a more suitable option. In reputable clinics, FUE has replaced FUT due to fewer risks and better outcomes.

In this procedure, no strip of skin is removed. Instead, only the hair follicles are extracted individually from the donor site using a special tweezer-like instrument. The doctor makes tiny incisions in the recipient area and implants the follicles one by one. This leaves behind only very tiny scars that heal over time.

Non-Surgical Eyebrow Transplant (MicroFit Plus)

In the MicroFit Plus technique, hair follicles are extracted from the donor site using advanced micro-tools, leaving no stitches or scars. Grafts measuring 2–3 millimeters are collected with micro-needles and preserved in a special solution that enhances their strength before implantation. These follicles are then delicately inserted into the sparse eyebrow area. Since the harvesting and transplanting process is faster, the risk of follicle damage is lower, resulting in denser and more natural eyebrows. Moreover, shock loss is minimal, and the resting phase of the new hairs is shorter, meaning results are visible sooner.

Ideal Candidates for Different Eyebrow Transplant Methods

Choosing the right eyebrow transplant method largely depends on the cost you are willing to pay. If you want a painless, bloodless procedure without visible scarring, you are an ideal candidate for the non-surgical MicroFit Plus method. However, this procedure is more expensive because it requires advanced tools, more time, and a highly skilled medical team. The cost also varies depending on the size of the area to be covered.

Usually, women—especially younger women who care more about beauty—opt for this advanced method. However, some men may also undergo eyebrow transplants due to eyebrow injuries or hair loss. For men who do not mind minor scars or who want a more affordable option, the FUE method is often recommended.

Side Effects and Risks of Eyebrow Transplant Methods

All eyebrow transplant methods may have some side effects. However, surgical techniques involving cutting and bleeding generally carry more risks. For example, the FUT method is faster and less costly but often leaves visible scars in both the donor and recipient areas.

The FUE technique avoids surgery, bleeding, and pain, and its tiny scars heal over time. The MicroFit Plus technique not only has the advantages of FUE but also provides denser and more natural results in a shorter time. Its potential minor side effects may include redness, swelling, bruising, or slight flaking around the donor and recipient areas, all of which heal quickly with proper aftercare.

It is recommended to carefully study the pros and cons of each eyebrow transplant method before choosing the right one. Also, always consult a specialist doctor, as they can suggest the most suitable technique based on your physical condition, hair donor quality, and the extent of eyebrow thinning.
